For some, the Call to circus comes before they were born, carried in the blood through generations. For others, it’s a subtle whisper that starts after seeing their first show and steadily builds until it either can’t be ignored or it’s crushed by the unrelenting weight of an unforgiving world. For Ash, the Call came at 3 in the morning while starting a university assignment that was due the next day. Never one to ignore destiny or miss an opportunity to be more like Batman, Ash heeded the Call. Using the power of Google, immediately found the WA Circus School and despite having no acrobatics or gymnastics experience, signed up for every class he could. During these formative years Ash tried everything from Russian bar to tumbling, but found his true love was in the air.
Despite his love of circus, he still resisted the urge to go full time and instead worked as an engineer for two years before finally deciding to embrace the life of an acrobat. He then moved to China (because that’s what Batman would do) and trained for 3 years at the Beijing International Arts School focusing on aerial straps and hand to hand.
Years have passed now since Ash first answered the Call and he hasn’t looked back. He’s performed
internationally on stages large and small, relishing the opportunity to share his love of flying with
audiences around the world. He recently represented Nat Harris Entertainment at the prestigious event ‘Pacha’ each Saturday night at the Ivy, Sydney.

Aerial Straps – ‘Spirit of Shaolin’

This aerial straps act is a love letter to Hong Kong’s rich history of kung fu cinema. A Shaolin Monk deep in meditation, his spirit soaring in the air, defies gravity and mortal constraints as he flows through his forms. It’s a beautiful, flowing piece that mixes traditional straps techniques with martial arts ‘wire-fu’ choreography made famous in the West by films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
